Alexander Ebbing
Alexander Ebbing is a kelp cultivator, marine biologist and founder of Ebbing Tides, working at the intersection of seaweed farming, offshore energy and circular business design. Over the last 13 years he has helped push kelp out of the artisanal phase and into a more precise, data driven practice, from lab scale innovation to open sea pilots in our oceans.
At Ebbing Tides he develops, deploys and teaches “precision kelp farming” techniques such as Multi Annual Delayed (MAD) gametophyte propagation, direct seeding techniques and quantified production processes. The goal is simple and ambitious at the same time: make kelp cultivation stable, cheap and clean enough to unlock new value chains in food, materials and ecosystem restoration.
Alexander works with developers, farmers, researchers and policymakers who want seaweed systems that actually run in the water, not just on slides. He is particularly interested in models where kelp cultivation, offshore renewables and nature restoration reinforce each other and create cash flow as well as ecological repair.
